c.1957 Suzuki Edwards, Mechanical Wiggling Dachshund In Original Box

If you've been waiting to see a segmented, swiveling, snake-like toy with a dog head and wearing green tartan plaid coverings, and chasing an 1½" long metal vibrating bee, well your wait is over. From Suzuki & Edwards, the same Japanese company that produced the battery operated Suzie Bear Cashier, comes this Mechanical Wiggling Dachshund in its original box. The toy is basically unused and in near mint condition.

It features a 4-section, train-like, wind-up clockwork, elongated tin litho dachshund. This embossed, all metal toy has the benign facial characteristics of a friendly canine out to make an insect its next meal. With grinning smile and outstretched tongue, the dog appears to gaze happily upwards at a hovering bee. The bee, attached by a long thin metal wire, moves whenever the dachsy moves.

The toy has an attached key and its motor is housed inside the head section. It has two rubber wheels of different sizes up front which causes the toy to move in random right, or left direction. Three more dog sections trail behind the head and "wiggle" unpredictably. Two metal disk wheels hold up the rear. The back section also has a long solid rubber brown tail and the S&E logo lithoed onto the underside.

The box was printed with an attractive cartoonish illustration showing the tartan clad pup in pursuit of a rather bug-eyed bug. The name of the toy, spelled with an apostrophe, and the Suzuki & Edwards logo are the only text. The front and rear aprons show a more simplistic drawing of the dog. Similar text was printed on all four box aprons.
